Leicester Tigers suffered a 41-17 defeat against Section Paloise in their opening Champions Cup clash in the south of France. Ollie Chessum scored a try on his return from injury to give Leicester early momentum, but Pau quickly seized control with tries from Rodrigo Marta and Jon Zabala to establish a halftime lead.
Although Archie van der Flier brought Leicester within seven points with a 54th-minute try converted by Billy Searle, Pau pulled away. Rodrigo Marta added a second score, followed by a try from Aaron Grandidier Nkanang and a late intercepted score from Fabien Brau-Boirie to secure a bonus-point victory for the French hosts.
