After enduring two grueling knee replacements, the veteran netminder returns to Madison Square Garden to test his remarkable recovery against a familiar rival in a high-stakes showdown.

New York Islanders goaltender Semyon Varlamov is expected to make his first NHL start since November 2024 on Tuesday night against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden. The 38-year-old netminder returns to action after an absence of nearly two years, spanning 676 days.
Varlamov's long-awaited comeback follows recovery from two partial knee replacements. His last regular-season appearance before the extended layoff came in an overtime loss against the Washington Capitals in late November 2024.
