Former Celtic manager Gordon Strachan stated that Celtic and Rangers can no longer compete financially with English Championship clubs, let alone Premier League sides. Speaking on The Good, the Bad and The Football podcast alongside Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt, Strachan asserted that both Glasgow teams would struggle and finish near the bottom of the Premier League today.
Strachan explained that escalating transfer fees and rising wage bills in English football have widened the gap, noting Celtic could not compete with clubs like Birmingham City for signings. While pointing out that Scottish football struggles to match English finances, he praised the domestic Scottish game as exciting to watch due to its fast-paced and open nature.
