Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who joined Everton from Sheffield United in 2016, left the club in the summer of 2025 following the expiry of his contract

Duncan Ferguson believes Everton made a mistake by allowing striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin to leave on a free transfer in the summer of 2025. Speaking on the Overlap Daily, Ferguson claimed the club should have met Calvert-Lewin's contract demands even if they reached £200,000 per week, and argued the 29-year-old deserves a spot in Thomas Tuchel's England squad.
Calvert-Lewin has impressed since joining Leeds United, scoring 15 goals last season and four in eight games this campaign. Ferguson also assessed current Everton forward Thierno Barry, noting that despite technical flaws, Barry's high work rate and luck will help him improve.
