Jon Gruden praised New York Giants quarterback J.J. McCarthy after his impressive relief performance against the New Orleans Saints. Replacing a struggling Jameis Winston, McCarthy nearly orchestrated a 24-point comeback before the Giants fell 34-27 in Week 6. Speaking on Barstool Sports, Gruden highlighted McCarthy's mobility and throwing ability, suggesting head coach John Harbaugh faces a pivotal decision regarding the starting quarterback role for Week 7 against the Houston Texans.
During the contest, McCarthy completed 11 of 21 passes for 243 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while adding 26 rushing yards. Despite the defeat, the Giants lead the NFC East with a 3-2-1 record. Writer Adam Martin notes that McCarthy has a strong chance to earn the start going forward as the team contends for a postseason berth.
