Florida Panthers forward Brad Marchand defended Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck following critical comments from BarDown analyst Jesse Pollack. Pollack argued that NHL players requesting a trade should immediately have their no-trade clauses voided and be sent anywhere. In response, Marchand dismissed the suggestion as a bad take, pointing out the hypocrisy regarding how teams routinely trade players signed to long-term deals.
Hellebuyck was suspended by the Jets after refusing to report to training camp following an offseason trade request, forfeiting over $500,000 in salary. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reported that Hellebuyck's team suspension is scheduled to conclude on October 23, creating a scenario where the club may either reintegrate him or pay him to remain away while seeking a resolution.
