The Trail Blazers' decision to pass on a Scoot Henderson extension proves he isn't the "high-priority" player that GM Joe Cronin claims.

The Portland Trail Blazers did not reach a rookie-scale extension agreement with point guard Scoot Henderson before the deadline, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes. Henderson, selected third overall in the 2023 draft, will now head toward restricted free agency following the season despite general manager Joe Cronin previously describing him as a high-priority player.
Writer Reese Kunz argues that the Blazers' front office decisions, including trading for point guard Ja Morant and extending Shaedon Sharpe instead, demonstrate Henderson is not the priority Cronin claims. Kunz highlights that while Portland previously secured Sharpe and Toumani Camara to long-term extensions, Henderson's role has been pushed down the team hierarchy.
