Real Madrid are reportedly demanding that the Premier League's "Big Six" clubs pay a share of the European Super League's setup costs following the project's collapse. Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, and Tottenham were among the original 12 founding members in April 2021 before swiftly withdrawing. According to a report by The Athletic, Bernabeu chiefs believe the six English clubs should be held liable for their portion of the initial expenses.
The total setup costs for the venture could reportedly reach as high as €80 million (£67.3 million). Real Madrid remain the sole club still committed to the project after Barcelona withdrew earlier in the year. The demand coincides with Real Madrid moving closer to hiring former A22 CEO Bernd Reichart as their new head of business operations, while club president Florentino Perez continues to argue the initial contracts remain binding.
