Sergio Perez believes the cost cap spending restriction is "unfair" on smaller F1 teams.

Sergio Perez has labeled Formula 1's cost cap as unfair to smaller teams ahead of an upcoming F1 Commission vote. Williams team principal James Vowles has proposed introducing a sliding-scale budget limit for 2027, granting lower-finishing constructors greater spending power than frontrunners, similar to current aerodynamic testing rules. Perez argued that smaller organizations are less efficient, causing the existing flat-rate cap to widen grid gaps rather than close them.
Vowles requires six votes out of 11 teams to pass the regulation change for the 2027 season. While Alpine, Aston Martin, Audi, and Cadillac reportedly back the Williams proposal, top contenders Ferrari, McLaren, Mercedes, and Red Bull, alongside Haas and Racing Bulls, are understood to oppose the measure, leaving the proposed reform short of the required majority.
