New York Islanders defenseman Matthew Schaefer has significantly increased his shot power during the early stages of the 2026-27 NHL season. According to reporting from amNewYork, the 19-year-old registered the league's 11th-hardest shot at 95.81 mph through eight games, an increase from his 93.91 mph peak last year.
Schaefer's average shot speed has also risen from 67.71 mph to 72.4 mph. The reigning Calder Trophy winner attributed the velocity gain to natural physical maturity and strength training while continuing to use his standard Warrior Covert QR7 Pro stick.
