Everton manager David Moyes faced scrutiny after leaving summer signing Hayden Hackney as an unused substitute in a 2-0 Premier League defeat to Chelsea. Chelsea secured the win at Hill Dickinson Stadium through two second-half goals from Pedro Neto. Moyes brought on substitutes Tyrique George, Brennan Johnson, and Christian Norgaard, but chose not to deploy Hackney as Everton struggled to create attacking chances.
Hackney joined Everton from Middlesbrough over the summer in a deal that could reportedly reach £25 million. Despite arriving as the Championship Player of the Season, the 24-year-old midfielder has faced tough competition for regular starts against James Garner, Harrison Armstrong, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
