The Story in 60 Seconds

Analyst Bill Simmons praised rookie center Aday Mara's impactful NBA debut for the Oklahoma City Thunder during their 116-104 victory over the San Antonio Spurs. Mara, selected 12th overall in the 2026 NBA Draft, scored seven points and recorded a signature block on Victor Wembanyama in 12 minutes of action. Simmons noted on his podcast that Mara's physical presence against Wembanyama felt important for OKC, addressing a lack of size that challenged the team in the prior postseason.

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault also commended Mara's poise and impact during critical game stretches. In addition to Mara's defensive showing, which contributed to Wembanyama shooting just 1-of-13 from the field, Oklahoma City was led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander with 32 points. Forward Jalen Williams also returned to provide 12 points and seven rebounds after missing significant time the previous season due to injuries.
