A new audio-based edge-detection technology named Sonic will debut during the upcoming international series between India and New Zealand. Developed in New Zealand and integrated into Virtual Eye's DRS setup, the system analyzes sound frequencies to help third umpires determine whether the ball contacted the bat. The International Cricket Council (ICC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) supported its testing, with ICC approval currently applying specifically to this tour.
The multi-format tour includes five T20Is, five ODIs, and two Tests. India will travel without rested fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah and injured all-rounder Hardik Pandya, while welcoming back Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Varun Chakaravarthy. Meanwhile, New Zealand faces injury absences of their own, with Rachin Ravindra, Mark Chapman, and Zak Foulkes sidelined, prompting call-ups for Josh Clarkson and Blair Tickner.
