Shohei Ohtani will not need offseason surgery and is expected to pitch again in 2027. Dodgers president Andrew Friedman confirmed the news after the Dodgers’ season ended against Milwaukee.
Los Angeles Times columnist Bill Plaschke has argued that the Los Angeles Dodgers should permanently remove Shohei Ohtani from pitching or consider trading him if he refuses. Plaschke claimed that attempting to play as both a full-time pitcher and hitter has negatively impacted Ohtani's offensive production, particularly following an injury-shortened 2026 campaign.
Despite the columnist's criticism, Dodgers president Andrew Friedman confirmed that Ohtani will not require offseason surgery and is expected to pitch in 2027. Ohtani stated he remains committed to continuing his two-way role, while the Dodgers focus on managing his workload and health following a postseason exit against Milwaukee.
