JJ Watt was promoted to CBS' top broadcasting crew after Tony Romo was placed on leave.
CBS Sports officially announced on Thursday that J.J. Watt has signed a multi-year deal to serve as the network's lead NFL game analyst. Watt takes over the role as the full-time replacement for Tony Romo, whose departure from the network was made permanent earlier this month. Watt will remain in the primary broadcast booth alongside play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz and reporter Tracy Wolfson.
Romo's departure followed an OWI arrest in Milwaukee over the summer, which kept him from calling games during the 2026 season. CBS confirmed that Watt's new contract also includes calling the network's upcoming Super Bowl coverage alongside Nantz, who recently suffered a minor wrist injury while demonstrating a football move with Watt during a live broadcast.
