The Philadelphia Flyers placed veteran forward Garrett Wilson on waivers Thursday, a procedural step that is expected to clear the way for his return to the American Hockey League, the team announced.
The Philadelphia Flyers announced Thursday that they have placed 35-year-old forward Garrett Wilson on waivers. The move is expected to clear a roster spot and allow the team to reassign the veteran to the American Hockey League's Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Philadelphia is pivoting toward younger players after opening the season with nine straight losses.
Wilson, who serves as captain of the Phantoms, has played just five NHL games since the start of the decade. His waiver placement follows regular shifts granted to recalled forwards Alex Bump, Cole Knuble, and Jacob Gaucher. If Wilson clears waivers, he can be assigned to the AHL as early as Friday.
