Phil Parkinson has spoken about the challenges of football management after becoming the second longest-serving manager in the English Football League.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has reflected on the intense pressures of football management after becoming the second longest-serving manager in the English Football League. Parkinson moved up the longevity rankings following Andy Woodman's dismissal from Bromley, leaving only Mansfield Town manager Nigel Clough with a longer active EFL tenure. Parkinson emphasized the importance of strong staff support and expressed sympathy for colleagues facing intense scrutiny during difficult spells.
Parkinson took charge of Wrexham in July 2021, leading the club on three successive promotions from the National League to the Championship. He highlighted the unified culture under the club's ownership while noting the constant pressure of opposing teams targeting Wrexham across every division. He also expressed sadness regarding the sacking of his friend Woodman following Bromley's 4-0 defeat against Leicester City.
