Key Things to Know
  • Pete Crow-Armstrong won overall Defensive Player of the Year but lost the center field award on a tiebreaker.
  • Ceddanne Rafaela took the center field award after leading Crow-Armstrong in Defensive Runs Saved 21 to 16.
  • Bleacher Nation's Brett Taylor argued Crow-Armstrong should have won both awards based on superior advanced metrics.
The Story in 60 Seconds

The Chicago Cubs earned multiple honors in the Fielding Bible Awards, highlighted by Pete Crow-Armstrong winning Defensive Player of the Year. However, Crow-Armstrong bizarrely missed out on winning the best center fielder award after tying Ceddanne Rafaela in points and first-place votes, losing the positional tiebreaker based on Defensive Runs Saved.

Bleacher Nation's Brett Taylor called the outcome nonsensical, arguing Crow-Armstrong's overall metrics surpassed Rafaela's despite the DRS difference. Elsewhere for Chicago, Alex Bregman won at third base and the Cubs claimed Defensive Team of the Year for the second consecutive season.
