HOUSTON -- Anyone who spent any time inside Colt Stadium in the mid-1960s as a player, fan or employee will tell stories of the heat and humidity that were impossible to escape, and the mosquitoes that followed as a result.…

Houston's Colt Stadium received a Texas historical marker on Tuesday at the site where the ballpark originally stood, just north of the Astrodome. The temporary stadium served as the initial home of the Houston Colt .45s from 1962 to 1964 before the franchise transitioned into the Astrodome and rebranded as the Houston Astros.
Funded by a grant from the Society for American Baseball Research, the marker commemorates the location of the first Major League game in Texas history. Attendees at the ceremony included Houston Astros officials, local dignitaries, baseball historian Mike Vance, and former player and manager Larry Dierker.
