The Yankees shortcomings exposed by this year’s World Series teams

Greg Joyce writes that the New York Yankees are once again confronting their roster shortcomings while watching other clubs compete in the World Series. The writer observes that AL East rival the Tampa Bay Rays outplayed New York this season with a cleaner, smarter, and more athletic style, echoing the previous season's issues against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The piece notes that manager Aaron Boone praised the Milwaukee Brewers as the best team New York faced after getting swept in May. Joyce questions whether the Yankees can realistically adopt these World Series teams' traits during the offseason, particularly while maintaining a large payroll and carrying over much of their existing roster.
