Ugandan winger had a fine game in defence against Trabzonspor…

Hearts winger Rogers Mato discussed his performance at emergency left-back against Mo Salah in a 2-0 UEFA Conference League loss to Trabzonspor. Head coach Wouter Vrancken deployed the 23-year-old Ugandan international in defense for the first time since age 12 due to a squad injury crisis. Vrancken purposely waited until the morning of the match to inform Mato of his assignment to ensure the player did not lose sleep before marking Salah.
Salah managed a penalty and an assist during the match, but Mato earned widespread praise for containing the forward in one-on-one battles. Hearts entered the clash missing seven first-team players, with Harry Milne sidelined by a serious knee injury and Christian Borchgrevink suffering a hamstring issue during the game. Mato expressed willingness to continue playing in defense if needed as Hearts prepare to face Motherwell in the Scottish Premiership.
