Karen Gill looks back on her childhood growing up as the granddaughter of Liverpool's greatest manager, Bill Shankly…

Bill Shankly's granddaughter, Karen Gill, and grandson, Chris Carline, reflected on growing up with the legendary Liverpool manager during an event at The ARC Hotel. Gill recalled that Shankly showed little sympathy for injuries, revealing that his grandchildren would tremble with fear if they fell over. She also noted how constantly being swarmed by supporters in public could be frustrating during her childhood before becoming inspirational later in life.
Carline highlighted the enduring legacy of the "Liverpool Way," an ethos of accountability and culture established by Shankly that continues to influence the club today. Shankly, who managed Liverpool from 1959 to 1974, led the Reds to three league titles and the UEFA Cup before his retirement.
