Alexander Volkanovski fell short in two previous bids for UFC lightweight gold, but after a history-making win at UFC 333, it appears he may get one more try.

Alexander Volkanovski is pushing for a potential retirement fight against UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje following his featherweight title defense at UFC 333. The 38-year-old Australian expressed desire to move back up to 155 pounds for a superfight to close out his career. UFC president Dana White indicated he is open to and interested in making the matchup.
Volkanovski called for the bout after defeating undefeated contender Movsar Evloev via second-round technical knockout at Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi. The victory marked Volkanovski's record ninth title fight win in the featherweight division, ending Evloev's 20-fight unbeaten streak.
