The Colorado Avalanche have placed forward Georgii Merkulov on waivers, a move that signals the end of his brief and interrupted stay with the organization this season.
The Colorado Avalanche have placed 26-year-old forward Georgii Merkulov on waivers after he recovered from an undisclosed training-camp injury. Merkulov, who joined Colorado on a one-year, two-way contract as a Group Six unrestricted free agent, had begun the season on injured reserve before being processed through the waiver wire on Saturday.
NHL teams have until 1 p.m. Central Time on Sunday to submit a waiver claim. If he clears waivers, Merkulov can be assigned to the AHL's Colorado Eagles, which would also clear an $8,854 salary cap charge from Colorado's books.
