Pete DeBoer back in Dallas with Islanders for first time since shock Stars ouster

New York Islanders head coach Pete DeBoer is returning to Dallas for the first time since being fired by the Stars. DeBoer led the Stars to three consecutive Western Conference Finals before his dismissal, which followed critical comments he made regarding goaltender Jake Oettinger during an elimination game against the Edmonton Oilers. Speaking after practice on Saturday, DeBoer remained understated about the reunion, noting that his tenure in Texas was a great chapter.

DeBoer has since guided the Islanders on an early-season run, earning points in five consecutive games ahead of Sunday's matchup in Dallas. Islanders defenseman Ryan Pulock praised DeBoer's structure and leadership, highlighting improved defensive details and neutral-zone control. DeBoer also confirmed he previously cleared the air with Oettinger after running into him during the Olympic Games in Milan.
