Julian Alvarez netted for the second consecutive game, having grabbed his first of the season in Atletico’s 1-1 Champions League draw at Stuttgart in midweek.
Julian Alvarez scored the decisive goal to lead Atletico Madrid to a 1-0 victory over Deportivo La Coruna at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano on Saturday. The Argentina forward broke the deadlock early in the second half by converting a low cross from Alejandro Grimaldo. The victory moves Diego Simeone's side within two points of La Liga leader Barcelona.
The strike marked Alvarez's second goal in as many games following his midweek effort in a 1-1 Champions League draw against Stuttgart. Second-placed Atletico tightened the title race ahead of Sunday's Clasico between Barcelona and third-placed Real Madrid, with Alvarez receiving the match's highest player rating of 8.9.
