Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong stated that he belongs in manager Hansi Flick’s starting lineup and does not want to get used to being a substitute. The Dutch international has returned to full fitness following a knee injury but has yet to play his first minutes of the season for the club.
Speaking to Ziggo Sport, De Jong acknowledged that his return must be gradual after a long absence but emphasized his goal to become a regular starter again soon. He is not expected to start against Real Madrid on Sunday, though he may feature as a substitute.
