The State of Kansas and Wyandotte County have settled their legal dispute over control of the Kansas City Chiefs' planned $3 billion domed stadium. Kansas Governor Laura Kelly and Kansas City, Kansas Mayor Christal Watson announced the agreement, clearing the path for the venue to open by 2031. Under the terms, the Unified Government of Wyandotte County will dismiss its lawsuit without prejudice.
According to the agreement, the state will own the stadium and parking facilities via the Kansas Sports Facilities Authority and lease them to the Chiefs for $7 million annually. Meanwhile, local officials will retain planning, zoning, and utility authority over the surrounding development, which will be serviced by the Board of Public Utilities and Evergy.
