The San Francisco Giants stayed comfortably beneath the MLB luxury tax threshold during the 2026 season. According to estimates from Cot's, the Giants committed $224.1 million against the Competitive Balance Tax, keeping them well below the $244 million threshold. This marks the second consecutive season that the franchise has remained under the threshold and avoided financial and draft pick penalties, following a franchise-record payroll in 2024.
Despite the significant financial commitment, the Giants struggled on the field, winning only 65 games. The organization heads into the offseason with approximately $136.7 million already committed to guaranteed contracts for the 2027 season. Key players under contract include Rafael Devers, Matt Chapman, Logan Webb, Willy Adames, Jung Hoo Lee, Adrian Houser, and Harrison Bader.
