The NFL and the NFL Players Association have started the process of launching an investigation into how the Philadelphia Eagles handled quarterback Jalen Hurts' medical treatment. Hurts was ruled out for the remainder of the season after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary emboli. The players' union questioned the league's initial decision to clear the Eagles of wrongdoing, leading NFL commissioner Roger Goodell to welcome a collaborative inquiry.
The Eagles medical staff originally cleared Hurts to play in London despite finding a superficial blood clot in his leg. Follow-up imaging later revealed the clot had moved to his lungs following subsequent practice participation. The upcoming third-party investigation is expected to examine the team's decision to clear Hurts to play and allow him to travel on international flights.
