“Odegaard was outstanding” but Merson was less complimentary about Gyökeres

Pundit Paul Merson offered contrasting verdicts on Arsenal players following their 2-0 victory over Everton, heavily praising Martin Ødegaard while questioning Viktor Gyökeres. Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson described captain Ødegaard as outstanding and praised his comfort on the ball, movement, and overall confidence during the Premier League fixture at the Emirates Stadium.

In contrast, Merson argued that Gyökeres made life too easy for Everton defender James Tarkowski by playing directly into his physical style. The writer notes that while Gyökeres failed to register a shot during his 68 minutes, he provided an assist for Ezri Konsa's opening goal and has contributed assists in consecutive matches.
