The New York Yankees' pursuit of the World Series ended in the American League Division Series for a second consecutive season after they were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays.

Writer Chaitanya Prakash argues that a trade sending Fernando Tatis Jr. from the San Diego Padres to the New York Yankees makes strategic sense for both franchises. Following an ALDS exit, the Yankees need additional offensive support alongside Aaron Judge. Prakash suggests that acquiring Tatis would provide New York with an elite bat and defensive versatility in right field, while allowing Judge to transition toward designated hitter duties.
From San Diego's perspective, Prakash notes that moving Tatis would shed the remaining balance of his 14-year, $340 million contract. This move could also allow the Padres to address their pitching rotation by acquiring prospects. However, Padres general manager A.J. Preller recently stated that the club does not intend to part ways with the All-Star outfielder.
