Following a middling first year for Devin Williams with the Mets, it's hard not to look at the success of the Brewers' and Rays' bullpens and wonder if they know something we don't.

Rising Apple argues that Devin Williams' contract with the New York Mets looks like an extreme overpay in light of the World Series matchup between the Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays. After signing with the Mets to reunite with David Stearns, Williams struggled with a 4.43 ERA and 16 saves, leaving two years and $34 million remaining on his contract.
The writer notes that World Series closers Bryan Baker of the Rays and Trevor Megill of the Brewers earn less than $6 million combined. Baker earned $1.275 million while recording 41 saves, and Megill earned $4.7 million with 30 saves, which the author highlights as proof that developing inexpensive bullpen talent is far safer than paying top dollar for volatile veteran relievers.
