Eddie Howe is reportedly the leading candidate to replace Michael Carrick at Manchester United, but Newcastle United are due a payout if he joins.

Manchester United reportedly face a financial obstacle in their pursuit of Eddie Howe as a potential replacement for Michael Carrick. Although Howe is currently out of work after departing Newcastle United in the summer, Newcastle are reportedly owed a significant compensation payout if another club hires him, due to the years remaining on his previous contract.
The Peoples Person writer Daniel Onguko argues that Carrick's position is increasingly untenable following a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth, which left United in 16th place with seven points from eight games. Onguko notes that paying a substantial compensation fee to hire Howe would test the cost-conscious resolve of United's INEOS leadership.
