The PNG Chiefs had a mini win in their legal battle against NZ Rugby this week, but if they lose the war don’t expect to see them in the Land of the Long White Cloud.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported that NRL boss Peter V'landys backs this stance. A New Zealand High Court judge recently rejected NZ Rugby's injunction bid to block the use of the Chiefs name, though the full case will proceed early next year.
Meanwhile, the St George Illawarra Dragons are seeking a new major jersey sponsor worth at least $1.2 million annually after Squadron Energy decided not to renew its three-year deal. The Dragons aim to finalize a partner ahead of 2027 following several high-profile player signings.
