Fans of Australian cricket had a decision to make last Thursday evening.
Cricket greats Alyssa Healy and Mel Jones have criticized the scheduling that leaves the Australian women’s cricket team without a home international match for 135 days. The team's recent fixture against New Zealand directly clashed with the Australian men's Test match against South Africa, prompting frustration over the lack of domestic spotlight and prime summer exposure for the world champions.
Cricket Australia cited congested global calendars, including the rescheduling of the ICC Women’s Champions Trophy and the Women’s Premier League window, as major factors. In response to mounting criticism from players and commentators, Cricket Australia chief Todd Greenberg stated that the governing body will explore creative fixture solutions to improve scheduling and visibility for future international summers.
