'Spending another four or five weeks in the group will give us a better understanding.'

All Blacks coach Dave Rennie explained that Chay Fihaki was chosen over Emoni Narawa to provide coaches a longer look at his abilities during the upcoming Northern Tour. Fihaki secured his spot among the outside backs following Leroy Carter's ankle injury, having recently made his test debut off the bench in Sydney against Australia.
Rennie noted that Narawa received clear feedback regarding areas for improvement and remains the primary backup if injuries occur. Eligible outside back Kyren Taumoefolau was also considered, while Richie Mo'unga is expected to miss the opening tour match against Scotland due to a calf injury.
