Ludlow racecourse is forced to cancel a third meeting in the 2026-27 jumps season following the summer drought.

Ludlow Racecourse has cancelled a third consecutive jumps fixture of the 2026-27 season due to hard ground caused by summer drought. Managing director Simon Sherwood confirmed the cancellation of the Farmers meeting scheduled for November 5 after grass died across critical parts of the track. The course now plans to host its next meeting on Monday, November 23.
The Shropshire venue features a naturally draining gravel base that suffered severely during record dry conditions and water extraction restrictions. Sherwood explained that reseeding work is underway with agronomists, but the course requires safe turf rooting along bends and fences to prevent horses and jockeys from slipping.
