Fleetwood Town produced one of the biggest shocks in Carabao Cup history as the League Two team dumped out Premier League champions Arsenal on penalties to reach the quarter-finals.

League Two club Fleetwood Town stunned Premier League champions Arsenal, knocking them out of the Carabao Cup fourth round 5-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at Highbury Stadium. Aaron Loupalo-Bi opened the scoring for Fleetwood in the 21st minute before Viktor Gyokeres equalized for Arsenal early in the second half. Arsenal youngster Max Dowman was later sent off in the 85th minute for an off-the-ball incident.
Fleetwood secured the historic upset in the shootout after goalkeeper Jay Lynch saved Bruno Guimaraes's spot-kick, allowing Conor Haughey to convert the winning penalty against Arsenal debutant Illan Meslier. Following the defeat, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta stated he could not fault his players' attitude, while the club confirmed plans to appeal Dowman's red card ahead of their upcoming weekend fixture.
