Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Mateus Fernandes has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Week award for Gameweek 8 following Spurs' win over Chelsea. The nomination gives him the chance to become the club's first recipient of the honor this season, after James Maddison was previously nominated in Gameweek 7.
Fernandes started in his preferred central midfield role, recording 102 completed passes, 124 touches, and five tackles at Stamford Bridge. Manager Roberto De Zerbi praised the 22-year-old Portuguese international's performance following his £85m summer transfer from West Ham.
