The Washington Capitals announced Wednesday that goalie Logan Thompson has been activated from injured reserve. To create roster space for Thompson's return, the Capitals demoted goaltender Mitch Gibson to the AHL's Hershey Bears. Gibson did not appear in any games for the Capitals during his NHL stint.

Gibson, who was drafted 124th overall in 2018, currently serves as Washington's third-choice goaltender behind Thompson and Charlie Lindgren. The 27-year-old netminder has recorded a 1-1-0 record with Hershey this season and is in the final year of his current contract.
