Wendell Carter is helping bring the Orlando Magic’s defense into focus

Wendell Carter is serving as a foundational piece in helping the Orlando Magic establish their defensive identity early in the season. Under coach Sean Sweeney, the Magic are adapting to a new defensive scheme that emphasizes staying in gaps and keeping Carter positioned as the low man around the basket. Through the team's first three games, Carter's versatility has been crucial as Orlando works through early-season adjustments.

Statistically, the Magic maintain a 108.2 defensive rating when Carter is on the floor, which is 3.7 points per 100 possessions better than the team's overall average. Opponents are shooting 58.8 percent against Carter at the rim. While Orlando continues to address team-wide rebounding struggles, Rossman-Reich highlights Carter's steady play as central to the Magic's defensive development.
