In the end, the Edmonton Oilers’ dominant record says more than any expert ever could. And Wednesday’s win over Calgary looked very much like a contender versus a rebuild, writes Mark Spector.

The Edmonton Oilers defeated the Calgary Flames 4-0 in a one-sided Battle of Alberta matchup on Wednesday. Mathieu Joseph, Mattias Ekholm, Alex Formenton, and Kasperi Kapanen scored for Edmonton, while goaltender Tristan Jarry made all required saves to register his 24th career NHL shutout. The victory improved Edmonton's record to 9-2-2 on the season under head coach Mike Babcock.
Edmonton captain Connor McDavid recorded two assists, establishing an NHL-record 13-game assist streak to open a season. Calgary goalie Devin Cooley left the contest after sustaining contact from Edmonton's Colton Dach late in the first period, replaced by Dustin Wolf for the remainder of the game.
