McCovey Chronicles writer Bryan Murphy names Rafael Devers' rebound as the third-most important story of the San Francisco Giants' 2026 season. Despite an early slump and requiring season-ending surgery, Devers silenced outside critics by finishing the year with 37 home runs, 98 RBIs, and a 136 wRC+ across 148 games.
Murphy argues that Devers proved he remains an elite offensive force, dispelling early speculation regarding a career decline. He emphasizes that securing Devers validates Buster Posey's blockbuster trade and provides the Giants with essential lineup stability and elite power at Oracle Park moving forward.
