Rangers and Celtic learn SFA appeal outcome over Scottish Cup stadium closure
Key Things to Know
  • Celtic and Rangers will still play their next home Scottish Cup matches behind closed doors after an SFA appeal.
  • The SFA set aside the previously imposed suspended stadium closures and suspended compensatory payments.
  • Both clubs must pay £100,000 to visiting opponents unless they are drawn against each other.
The Story in 60 Seconds

Celtic and Rangers have had their SFA appeals partially upheld, but both clubs will still face stadium closures for their next home Scottish Cup fixtures. Following violent pitch invasions at Ibrox in March, the governing body initially imposed immediate stadium bans alongside suspended closures and fines. Following Monday's hearing, the SFA confirmed the fan lockouts remain active whenever either club next hosts a cup tie.

Under the revised ruling, suspended future stadium closures and suspended payments have been officially dismissed. The SFA also ruled that neither club must pay the £100,000 compensation fee if they are drawn against each other, though the sum remains payable within 30 days to any other visiting opponent.
