FC Barcelona manager Hansi Flick and the club board reportedly have competing visions regarding the midfield and Frenkie de Jong's future role. De Jong recently returned from a knee injury as a substitute against Real Madrid, but club leadership prefers prioritizing younger options such as Marc Bernal and Gavi alongside starters Pedri and Rodri.
While the board is reportedly open to selling the 29-year-old midfielder, Flick intends to utilize De Jong in multiple roles. With Dani Olmo injured, Flick has tested the Dutch international in advanced midfield positions and even experimented with him as a central defender in training.
