The Story in 60 Seconds

According to Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast, Vancouver Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk is unlikely to formally request a trade. Although Vancouver is enduring a rebuild and DeBrusk has not experienced ideal results with the club, Friedman reports that the winger wants to avoid repeating the public fallout from his previous trade request with the Boston Bruins.

While Friedman noted that DeBrusk and the Canucks would likely welcome an opportunity elsewhere if one emerged, DeBrusk prioritizes handling any potential departure properly without appearing to bail on the team. Through the first 12 games of the 2026-27 season, DeBrusk has recorded three goals and five assists, while Vancouver has struggled with only three wins in 14 games.
