The Detroit Tigers have acquired infielder Tsung-Che Cheng from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for cash considerations, according to reports. The move opens a spot on Boston's 40-man roster while providing Detroit with extra middle-infield coverage.
Cheng is a 25-year-old left-handed hitter capable of playing shortstop, second base, and third base. Brandon Day notes that Cheng adds depth as Trey Sweeney recovers from major shoulder surgery, reuniting Cheng with former international teammate Hao-Yu Lee.
