Williams driver Alex Albon stated that his opening-lap collision with Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso at the United States Grand Prix was a "50-50" racing incident. The incident occurred at Turn 11 at COTA when Albon made an inside overtaking move while Esteban Ocon was on Alonso's outside, damaging both cars and causing Alonso and Albon to finish 16th and 17th respectively.
Albon also rejected Alonso's remarks criticizing the lower third of the grid, arguing the current Formula 1 field is stronger than it was a decade ago due to the absence of pay drivers. Despite disagreeing with the comments, Albon stated he maintains huge respect for Alonso.
