George Russell has reflected on the challenges that have beset his title run during the 2026 Formula 1 season on the weekend his teammate could become world champion.

Mercedes driver George Russell admitted he has never experienced a season like 2026, citing extreme performance fluctuations ahead of the Mexico City Grand Prix. Russell enters the race weekend trailing teammate Kimi Antonelli by 123 points in the championship standings, with Antonelli needing only a ninth-place finish on Sunday to secure his first Formula 1 world title.
Despite dominant race victories in Australia and Baku, Russell has suffered three retirements and erratic results driving the W17. The British driver noted that establishing consistency is his top priority for the remainder of the season as he and the team work objectively to understand the stark performance swings.
